Paver Sand Calculator
Estimate bedding sand under a paver project.
Enter your paver area and the bedding-sand depth to get the volume in cubic yards and cubic feet plus the number of 50-lb bags. A 1-inch sand setting bed is standard over a compacted gravel base.
How it works
Volume is area × depth (in feet) ÷ 27 for cubic yards. A 50-lb bag of sand holds roughly 0.5 cubic feet. Keep the sand bed an even 1 inch — thicker beds let pavers settle unevenly over time.
Frequently asked questions
How much sand do I need for pavers?
Multiply area by depth in feet and divide by 27. A 12×10 ft patio at 1 inch deep needs about 0.37 cubic yards, or roughly 20 fifty-pound bags.
How thick should the paver sand bed be?
About 1 inch of bedding sand over a compacted gravel base. Thicker beds cause uneven settling.
Is bedding sand the same as paver joint sand?
No — bedding sand levels the pavers underneath; joint or polymeric sand fills the gaps between them afterward.
Is this calculator free and private?
Yes. Every CubicCabin calculator runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you enter are never uploaded or stored. There's no sign-up, no limits, and it keeps working even if you lose connection after the page loads.
