Linear Feet Calculator

Convert a coverage area into linear feet of boards.

Enter the area you need to cover and your board width to get the total linear feet of material, plus how many boards of a given length that works out to. Useful for decking, flooring, fencing, and trim.

How it works

Linear feet is the running length of material regardless of width. To cover an area, divide the area by the board width in feet (board width in inches ÷ 12). Divide the result by your board length to get the number of boards.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert square feet to linear feet?

Linear feet measure length only; square feet measure area. Boards are often priced by the linear foot but installed to cover an area.
